Steve Andersen grew up in a small town in Massachusetts eating incredible food prepared by his mother, who is a fantastic cook. He is a self-taught chef who depended on family role models, cookbooks and a lot of creative experiments to learn his craft. Steve's first professional experience as a cook started in a small restaurant in Maui called Lahina Coolers where he had to create specials using fresh Hawaiian fish literally caught a few hours earlier.
Steve moved to Alaska in 1996 and took a position as Sous Chef at McKinley Chalet in Denali. After taking six months to travel throughout Southeast Asia, Steve returned to Alaska and worked as Sous Chef at the Talkeetna Alaska Lodge. In 2003 Steve and his family moved to Anchorage and he joined the Marx Bros. staff serving as Chef d' Cuisine.
"I try to make my dishes reflect my desire to emulate the food that I had growing up. I believe that a good meal should evoke fond memories and be fun and comfortable, not stuffy and pretentious."
